About Us

Rynfield Primary School officially opened in 1957, with a total of 337 pupils and 10 teachers. The original school consisted of the Administration Block, the Hall, Grade 2 Block and the Senior Block, although only the upstairs classrooms were utilised.

No-one could imagine or even dream of how the school was to progress and grow in the years to come.

Today, we are very proud of our achievements, both aesthetically and educationally – we have come a long way since those early days. The grounds have been nurtured into lawns, flowerbeds and playing fields, and on fine days some of the older children have the pleasure of taking their lessons outside in these tranquil surroundings.

A Junior Media / Computer Centre was completed at the end of 2007, with a fully stocked library and computer centre for the Foundation Phase pupils. Upstairs, the Perceptual Centre, the only one of its kind on the East Rand, runs a programme for the Foundation Phase pupils, concentrating on the development of their fine and gross motor co-ordination, audio/ visual skills, as well as music appreciation.

A separate Media as well as Computer Centre is available for the senior pupils, together with an Art Centre which is the envy of many surrounding schools.

On site, a sparkling blue, heated 25m pool is used to host swimming galas and offer swimming lessons to pupils. Our swimmers are amongst the best in the area.

Numerous other sporting disciplines are catered for, overseen by experienced and dedicated sports coaches.

'The Adventure Zone', an on-site, privatised aftercare centre caters for over two hundred of our children. Classrooms have been brightly painted and walls adorned with colourful pictures and learning media providing a cheerful and congenial atmosphere for learning. We have a very caring and highly trained staff who offer love and understanding combined with the education of the youngsters under their care. Every child is an individual with different needs and it is our Mission to ensure that each child reaches his/her full potential. This is why our teachers are chosen for their exceptional qualities.
